Cabbage Soup with Smoked Pork Belly

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 200 g smoked pork belly
  • 500 g cabbage
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 potatoes
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp syrup
  • 10 allspice berries
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 15 dl vegetable broth
  • some salt
  • some pepper

Instructions

  1. 1.
    Cut smoked pork belly into small pieces.
  2. 2.
    Trim and cut cabbage into 2 cm pieces. Peel and dice carrots , potatoes and yellow onion .
  3. 3.
    In a pot , fry the pork belly pieces until they release fat and begin to crisp.
  4. 4.
    Add cabbage and onion to the pot with the pork belly and butter . Brown until they get some color. Drizzle syrup over and cook for another minute.
  5. 5.
    Add carrot and potato cubes, allspice berries , bay leaf and vegetable broth .
  6. 6.
    Simmer for 30 minutes .
  7. 7.
    Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. 8.
    Serve with bread.
